Zambales (April 2011)

Last summer, my friends and I went somewhere beautiful. A place that is a complete opposite of what we're used to. No internet, cellphones, TV and any other forms of communication. It was the longest two days of our lives.

Day 1

Day 1 was spent on Anawangin alone. The beach is kind of different to the ones that are usually found in the tropics like Boracay and Palawan. Instead of the usual Coconut trees, it is dominated by Pine looking trees(which I found out later to be Agoho trees), which made the beach look more temperate.

A lot of activities can be done in Anawangin like frisbee, hiking/trekking, snorkeling etc. The place is also a good getaway from the city as life there was too simple.

Taking pictures in Anawangin is best recommended during sunset. The sunlight is just awesome as it gives the mountains a brown/orage color and glow.

Since Anawangin has no electricity, we decided to maximize our time while the Sun was still up for us to take pictures.

After sunset, we went back to the camp and prepared dinner. We had a mini bonfire underneath the woods and that moment, I felt like I was not in the Philippines anymore with that kind of atmosphere.

Day 2

I told myself that no matter what happened, I would take pictures of Anawangin from the hills surrounding it. So at around 8am I asked Via and VJ if they could accompany me. Luckily, they said yes but when we arrived at the starting point of the trek, they backed out as it was too steep! So I had no choice but to go there alone since I don't want to waste the opportunity to see and take pictures of the beach from the hills.

The climb was relatively short as it only took me 15-20 minutes to reach the top of the hill.

When I reached the peak, no words can describe how amazed I was to see such beauty and scenery.

Anawangin was just gorgeous and divine.

After minutes of rest and taking pictures, I decided to go back to the camp to prepare for our departure. I just fixed everything for an hour then after that, we bid goodbye to Anawangin. Our stay in Anawangin was relatively short but since there's no electricity there, time seems to be just slow.

After Anawangin, we then headed off to our next destination, Capones Island. It took us around 15 minutes to reach the island and it was a rough ride on the way there. The current was just strong as I actually had to put my camera in the bag.

When we arrived in Capones we immediately went to the lighthouse since our boatman had to be in Pundaquit by 12pm. I was actually disappointed with Capones as vandalisms and trash were just all over the place. Though Anawangin wasn't that clean as well, the shore of Capones was really dirty and looks ill-maintained.

We hiked for about 15 minutes on the way to the lighthouse and what made it worst is that, the heat was just insane.

I took pictures for 10 minutes then went back to the shore where our boatman was waiting.

The boat ride from Capones to Pundaquit(mainland Zambales) took us another 15 minutes. On our way to Pundaquit, we had a glimpse of the other parts of Capones island.

Our trip ended in Pundaquit where we stayed for an hour to fix everything before going back to Manila. The ride from Pundaquit to Manila was about 3 hours and while we were on our way home, we had our last shoot at SCTEX. Since Cheung's car has a sunroof, we decided to play around with it and have fun for the last time.
